Journal Entry Status = Pending Approval, Click Save But Posting Period is incorrect (changed)

A new Journal Entry was created with the initial status of Pending Approval. The Posting Period was manually selected. When saved, the Posting Period has been changed and not what was expected. Here’s an example:

Before Saving:
Transaction Date = 9/30/2019
Posting Period = Oct 2019
Status = Pending Approval

After Saving:
Posting Period = Nov 2019

This is a standard/expected behavior. For conditionally posting transactions (pending approval), the system does not store the Posting Period selected by the user.

When viewing a Journal Entry (transaction) with the Status = Pending Approval or upon approval, the system will automatically set the Posting Period based on the following:

1. The system will match the transaction date (9/30/2019) with its natural Posting Period (Sep 2019; based on the period setup/date range).

2. If the natural Posting Period is already closed (or user has no permission to post against locked period), the system will use the accounting preference Default Posting Period when Transaction Date in Closed Period. (Navigate to Setup Accounting Accounting Preferences > General)

Therefore, the selected Posting Period is ignored. Should the Posting Period be changed, the approver must change it upon/after approving the transaction.
