Auto-calculation of reorder point and preferred stock level

For Items that use Advanced Inventory Management to calculate demand, there are cases that auto-calculated inventory metrics may not be accurate if the sample of data does not match the order analysis interval.

This could occur in the following cases:

  1. Account is new and user has no sales history data entered.
  2. New Item Records have no sales history data.
  3. Multi-Location Inventory feature was enabled and have no sales history data per location.

In such cases, the auto-calculation uses the full interval only if there are sales for the item before the beginning of the interval. If there are no sales before the beginning of the interval, the auto-calculation is attempted using half of the interval.

If there is not enough data to make calculations using the half-interval, then the Reorder Point and PreferredStock Level remain unchanged. Then, manual metrics can be entered, or the auto-calculations occur at a later date when there is enough sales data.

Solution

Considering this, users may try below to force auto-calculation of Reorder Point and Preferred Stock Level.

  1. Set the Order Analysis Interval into less than 6 months, example: 1 month
    • Navigate to Setup > Accounting > Inventory Management Preferences
    • Set the Order Analysis Interval to1 month
    • Click Submit & Calculate
  2. Check a sample Item if the auto-calculation worked.
  3. Click Save
