Create a Custom Field that is Dependent on Another Custom Field using Custom Segments

Scenario

We want to create a custom field that would list values depending on the selected value on a different custom field. This can be achieved by creating dependent Custom Segments.

Solution

To create a custom segment we need to enable the custom segments feature.

Go to Setup> Company> Enable feature

Under the SuiteCloud tab tick the custom segment check box and save.

Creation of custom segment

Customizatio> Lists, Records, Fields> Custom Segments>New

  • Create the Filtered By Custom Segmen
  • Navigate to Customization > Lists, Records, & Fields > Custom Segments > New
  • Label: Enter Category
  • Type: Select List/Record
  • Click Values
  • Value: Enter Values for the Category field
  • Click Application & Sourcing
  • Click ItemsInventory Part: Enter Checkmark
  • Click Save.
  • Create the Dependent Custom Segment
    • Navigate to Customization > Lists, Records, & Fields > Custom Segments > New
    • Label: Enter Subcategory
    • Type: Select List/Record
    • Filtered By: Select Category
    • Click ValuesValue: Enter Value for Subcategory Field
    • Click Set Filters
    • Filter: Select Category
    • Category: Click the applicable values
    • Click Set
    • Click Application & Sourcing
    • Click Items
    • Inventory Part: Enter Checkmark
    • Click Save

In the above screenshot, we can see that when we select the category field the values entered in the category field show as a list.

When we select any of the category values, then the subcategory field shows only those values that are associated or filtered with the selected category value.
