Display the top 10 search results with their total in the dashboard portlet

Scenario – The client wants to have the dashboard portlet to display the top 10 results of a particular Saved Search and present the cumulative total of only those results within the dashboard.

Remarks:

In the context of dashboard portlets associated with Saved Searches, it’s worth noting that the ‘Custom Search’ portlet is employed to filter and present the top 10 results. However, the total displayed within this portlet will represent the sum of all search results, rather than solely the top 10 outcomes.

Regarding the option to limit the number of displayed lines within Saved Searches, there is an existing functionality in place. However, a system enhancement is presently in the voting stage (#286530), aiming to allow the displayed line sum to be considered as the total. Unfortunately, this enhancement’s pending status restricts us from utilizing the same functionality within the dashboard portlet.

Furthermore, incorporating the ability to exhibit search results using filters such as top 10, top 20, etc., similar to the dashboard, is also subject to a system enhancement (reference number #79793).

In light of these considerations, we can explore utilizing workbooks to fulfill the specific requirements we have in mind. Workbooks offer a versatile platform that could potentially accommodate the desired functionalities more effectively. Using Workflows, we can effectively apply filters to the results based on preferences such as the top 10 or top 20 or any such statistics. In the corresponding workbook, the total displayed will exclusively represent the cumulative sum of the visible lines. Additionally, we have the flexibility to incorporate this workbook as either a pivot table or a graphical chart within the dashboard. Consequently, the sum depicted within the dashboard portlet will accurately reflect that of the displayed lines. For this specific purpose, our go-to tool is the ‘Analytics’ portlet.
