Error: “An unexpected error has occurred.” When a Custom Role View Other Records and Advanced Employee Permissions Feature Is Enabled

Custom Role tries to search for a Customer, Vendor, Contact, Prospect or Lead Record in the Global Search box or clicks View from the record’s list page and encounters an unexpected error. The Custom Role is not allowed to view Employee Record.

The Administrator needs to check if the role is assigned with the Employee Record permission. When Advanced Employee Permissions feature is enabled, the Employee Record permission needs to have a corresponding permission in the Employee Access tab if the role needs to have access to view an Employee record.

If the role is not allowed to view Employee Record, the Employee Record permission needs to be removed.

  1. Go to Setup Users/Roles Manage Roles
  2. Custom Role: Click Edit
  3. Click Employee Access 
  4. Verify that there are no Advanced Employee Permissions assigned
  5. Click Permissions
  6. Click Lists
  7. Permission column: Click Employee Record
  8. Click Remove
  9. Click Save
