Google Brings Continuous Scroll to Desktop Search Results

Currently, Google users can access up to six pages of search results, but the company is bringing continuous scrolling to desktop search results. This feature will roll out in the US first, but the company has not announced if it will eventually expand to other regions or languages.

The new feature is not quite true continuous scrolling, but it does allow users to scroll dozens of search results at once. The new mechanism automatically loads the next set of search results when the user reaches the bottom of the page. The feature works by using a “buffering indicator” to help determine how long the search results should be displayed. The search results page will then show a “More” button, allowing users to access more search results. This will make the Google search experience more similar to other modern social media feeds.

Historically, Google has experimented with the number of results on a page. For example, in 2008, the company asked users whether they would prefer a page with more or less search results. The average person surveyed responded that they would rather have more search results on a page than less. In October 2021, the company changed its mobile search results to continuously scroll, and in May 2022, it began testing the feature on its mobile web.

The company has also been experimenting with widget-styled cards on home screens, giving users quick access to information. These are similar to the “infinite scroll” that many popular social networks offer. However, the new Google search feature will not be like the infinite scrolling found on these sites. Instead, Google will only return up to six pages of results.

While the company has not stated a specific reason for this change, it is a good indication that the company is trying to make the search experience easier. Rather than relying on page rank, which is often used as a benchmark for how relevant a site is, users will be reliant on link quality and keyword usage. In the end, the best sites should offer personalized content that addresses a particular person’s needs.

In addition, Google has been testing continuous scrolling for years on its desktop search results. In a recent tweet, the company showed the behavior of the feature. The result was a page with ten blue links highlighting the newest Google features.

While the company has not officially announced the rollout of the feature, it is expected that it will be available in the coming months. In the meantime, users can continue to access Google’s existing features. The company says that it is only a matter of time before the change rolls out to all U.S. and global users.

The new Google search feature is designed to be easy to use, but it is not meant to replace the current system. Instead, it is designed to provide a more consistent and enjoyable user experience across all devices. The company has also said that it is making the desktop search results more similar to the ones that users receive on their phones.
